Overview

Because it can be difficult to write scientific and medical articles, in these pages, I will give some advice on how to create your manuscript. This will just be a brief overview of the process. I will discuss the conventions and highlight the specific areas showing differences among journals. For more detailed advice, I suggest consulting one of the many excellent books on scientific writing. Two that I use are Essentials of Writing Biomedical Research Papers by Mimi Zeiger and Scientific Writing and Communication: Papers, Proposals, and Presentations by Angelika H. Hofman. The latter, as the name suggests, covers other types of writing, such as grant applications, posters, and presentations. Information can also be found in the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and. Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. Always consult the author guidelines section of the target journal and follow their requirements.
